India Blocks YouTube Channel of Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif Citing National Security Concerns

New Delhi: In a firm response following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, India has blocked the official YouTube channel of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The move, implemented on Friday, was justified on the grounds of national security and maintaining public order.

Visitors attempting to access the blocked channel are met with a message stating, “This content is not available in India due to government orders related to national security or public order. See Google Transparency Report for more information.”

The action is part of India’s broader effort to curb propaganda and inflammatory content allegedly emanating from Pakistan in the wake of the attack.

This development follows India’s earlier crackdown on Monday, when it banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels—including major networks such as Dawn News, ARY News, Samaa TV, Geo News, and Bol News—for disseminating false, provocative, and communally sensitive content. According to Indian authorities, these platforms were actively spreading disinformation targeting India’s armed forces and security institutions.

The government’s actions reflect heightened vigilance in the digital space, as India seeks to prevent the spread of narratives that could escalate tensions or undermine national security.
