Safety Lapses at BSL: Five workers sustains burn injuries as Molten Metal Spills in SMS-II

Bokaro: A serious safety incident occurred at the Bokaro Steel Plant’s (BSL) Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II) when hot metal unexpectedly spilled, triggering panic and chaos among the workers present.

According to the eyewitness, five employees sustained severe burn injuries in the mishap and were immediately rushed to the plant’s medical unit. Later, all five were subsequently referred to Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) for advanced treatment, sources said.

The injured workers have been identified as Nandkishore, Ruplal Gorai, Anand Mandal, Samar Kumar, and Chhotelal Manjhi.

According to hospital sources, one of the workers sustained severely burn injuries.

The Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) has strongly condemned the incident, blaming it on lapses in safety protocols and accusing Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) management of negligence. “Such accidents are becoming frequent, yet no concrete safety measures are being implemented,” the union stated.

An internal inquiry into the safety failure is expected, said an official.
