CSIR-NML launches PI-CHeCK Study on Cardio-Metabolic Disorders in India

RNS: The “Phenome India: CSIR Health Cohort Knowledge Base (PI-CHeCK)” study, aimed at developing personalized risk prediction scores for cardio-metabolic diseases in the Indian population, was inaugurated by Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Senior Chief Scientist at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory.

This initiative is crucial due to the increased prevalence of cardio-metabolic disorders like diabetes, obesity, and fatty liver among individuals with longer lifespans, especially impactful in countries with large populations like India.

The PI-CHeCK study, limited to CSIR-NML employees (serving and retired) and their spouses, aims to capture longitudinal molecular, biochemical, and organ scanning data. It leverages CSIR’s Pan-India presence and workforce to develop targeted diagnostic and prognostic technologies through AI/ML models, potentially leading the way for Precision Medicine in India and globally.

Around 500 CSIR-NML employees/pensioners and their spouses have registered for the program, which involves enrolling through the secure PI-CHeCK Portal.

Dr. Ansu J Kailath, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-NML and Coordinator of the project, along with Co-Coordinator Dr. Krishna Kumar, Sr. Scientist, CSIR-NML, have praised the participants and project team for their efforts towards the project’s success.
