Bokaro: In a praiseworthy decision the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has been taken an initiative to strengthen the Olympic Education and other Olympic Academic missions in India.
IOA is the nodal organisation for Olympic sports in India and such initiatives has been taken for the first time since independence, informed Jaideep Sarkar.
Jaideep is the Executive Board Member of Indian Pierre de Coubertin Association (IPCA) and National Council of Sports Science and Physical Education (NCSPE). He is also a City Officer of India’s first IOC supported Global Active Partner and an Asian Silver Medal (AVC) recipient in Volleyball.
“This bold and much-awaited step was mastermind by the president of IOA Dr Narendra Dhruv Batra, himself supported by the concerned stakeholders in the area, said Jaideep.
“A seven members committee on Olympic Education and Other Academic matters chaired by Sri Prashant Kuswaha, Secretary General of AKCAI of IOA with the support of the international and national authorities might be a boon to revamp Indian Sports Ecosystem in the days to come,” he added.
Simultaneously, the apex global body of International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the president of IOC’s International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC) as well as the member of IOC’s Olympic Education Commission Dr Stephan Wassong has also shown his keen interest to inculcate Olympic Education through its various means and methods, like the establishment of IOC’s Olympic Studies Centre (OSC) in India, he informed.
In a series of web meetings amongst the authorities and representatives of international and national communities in the relevant areas of sports and Olympic Education, it has been floored to interact through a high level international visual conference slotted to be held by IOA’s Olympic Education Committee on 11 and 12 June this year, informed Jaideep.
The session will be attended by Professor Stephen Wassong along with Moderator Dr Rakesh Gupta, Dr Arnaud Richard, Dr Ulrich Rosen, Professor Pere Lavega, Dr Constantinos Filis, Dr Alexis Lyras, Vita Balsyte and Dr Ben Sanders on 11 June. While on 12 June Jennifer Keurulainen, Ada Zaferry, Niki Koutrou, Micheal Gross along with Moderator Jaideep Sarkar, Nadia Moreno, Professor Jim Parry, Professor Gary Bernstein and Dr Catherin Carty will be scheduled to express their views, informed Jaideep.
“It’s my pleasure to privilege that I have been opportune to work on the above area in close cooperation of both the international and national entities,” he added.
A number of world’s top 18 experts in the area of Olympic Education, Olympism, valued based sports will express their views over the issue in the international visual conference (on 11 and 12 June), he said.
“Besides, international experts, elite national sports resource persons will also be scheduled to be delivered their views,” added Jaideep.
Interestingly, the Director (Project) of the IOC supported Global Active City (GAC) programme Michael Gross will also opine on India and its first Global Active Partner City of Bokaro which is expected to be followed by Chandigarh very soon, said Jaideep.
