Around 44.78 lakh doses of Corona Vaccines wasted in India till 11 April, reveals an RTI

RNS: Amidst the shortage of Coronavirus vaccines, around 44.78 lakh doses of the 10.34 crore vaccine doses used by different states across India have been wasted till 11 April, revealed an RTI filed over the vaccine response.

The country launched the vaccination programme on 16 January, with currently vaccinating people over the age of 45.

Around 23 per cent of the corona vaccines have been wasted until 11 April particularly in Haryana, Punjab, Manipur, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, it reported.

With 12.10 per cent, Tamil Nadu tops in the vaccine wastage list followed by Haryana with 9.74 per cent, Punjab 8.12 per cent, Manipur 7.80 per cent and Telangana reported 7.55 per cent of wastage of corona vaccine, it said.

Meanwhile, vaccines in some states and UTs like – Kerala, West Bengal, Mizoram, Goa, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Island, and Lakshadweep were not waste, it revealed.
