200 Oxygen beds Jumbo COVID Care Facility kicks-off at Burnpur

RNS I New Delhi: A 200-bedded gaseous oxygen-equipped COVID-care facility started at Burnpur on Wednesday.  The care center is erected by the SAIL-ISP Burnpur. Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan today dedicated the service to the nation.

The facility is also equipped with 10 ventilators and 8 ICU beds are also being made operational at this center.

SAIL-ISP Burnpur has converted its 32 room Chhotadighari Vidyapeeth HS School into 200 bedded Jumbo COVID Care Facility which is being put to service today. The new temporary facility is a part of the 500-bedded Jumbo Covid-care centre being established by SAIL for providing critical care to Covid19 patients in and around Burnpur (Asansol) and Paschim Bardhaman region of West Bengal, it said in a press communiqué.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that the nation faced unprecedented demand of medical oxygen during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed satisfaction that the steel sector has stood up during these testing times and worked on war footing basis to supply liquid medical oxygen in the country.

Mentioning the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for setting up COVID-care centres near the production centres of gaseous oxygen, Pradhan said that he is glad that today SAIL is starting its first such COVID-care facility with gaseous oxygen in Burnpur.

He also requested that SAIL maintain the facility to ensure the patients’ highest hygiene and environment. In addition, the Minister called for the establishment of a testing facility in the centre and also other steel plants, in order to ensure that the pandemic COVID-19 was spread and traced aggressively.

Enumerating Prime Minister’s vision of taking everyone along, Pradhan called for vaccinating people associated with the steel ecosystem including contract labourers.

Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste, MoS Environment, Forest & Climate Change Babul Supriyo and MLA, South Asansol Agnimitra Paul and Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL were also present in the event along with senior officials of the Ministry of Steel and SAIL.
