Ashis Sinha I Dhanbad: Mild intensity earthquake tremors measuring magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale felt in Dhanbad and its neighbouring districts in Jharkhand at around 1.32 am on Monday. The quake had its epicenter at Baliapur in Dhanbad.
No untoward incidents were reported, official sources informed.
IIT (ISM), Dhanbad Professor Mohit Agrawal, coordinator of Seismological observatory, reported that a minor local earthquake occurred on 10 Jan 2022 (01:32 AM) with epicenter near Baliapur (District Dhanbad) having magnitude around 3.8 on the Richter scale.
The tremors we felt of three seconds following the explosion sound last night, said Shankar a resident of Hirapur in Dhanbad.
Notably, Dhanbad along with entire Jharkhand comes in the Eastern Regional Shield Area which is very sensitive for the earthquake.
Earlier on 6 January, a medium-intensity earthquake was felt near Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh late night. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were felt at the magnitude of 4.33 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 15 km and 776 km northeast of Ayodhya.
