‘Phulwari’ to teach students environmental responsibility

RNS: To celebrate the beauty that nature graciously brings into our lives and to inculcate a sense of responsibility among students towards the environment, a plant exhibition cum competition titled- ‘Phulwari’ was organised at DPS Bokaro today.

Over 2000 plant species were exhibited in the show, which included a collection of diverse flora nurtured by the students in diversified categories like seasonal flowers, medicinal plants, vegetables, fruits, decorative plants, non-flowering plants, and bonsais.

District Forest Officer Rajnish Kumar inaugurated the exhibition. He expressed his happiness on seeing the active participation of students in large numbers. He said that children must be encouraged to nurture plants and show their belongingness towards the environment. He added that DPS Bokaro is a trendsetter in promoting environment-friendly projects.

He said that the existence of the living world is due to nature. Forests and groves are the ornaments of the earth. Their protection is not only necessary but also the moral duty of all of us.

Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal, DPS Bokaro, said that organising Phulwari is sensitising the students towards their environmental responsibility. It will give a new and sustainable perspective to the students.

It is worth mentioning that in Phulwari, the children and their guardians take care of the plant they adopt. Exhibitions of those plants are organised and on the basis of excellence, they are also rewarded. The health of the plant, soil, texture and its economic importance is judged and accordingly, the selected plants are awarded.

The exhibition in the senior wing was judged by Shobhana Panwar, Neelam Singh and Sujata De, while Rita Khawas, Atrayee Bhattacharya and Sumit Gorai were the judges in the primary wing.
