Dumri MLA, Jagarnath Mahato died at Chennai hospital

RNS: Jagarnath Mahato, Education Minister Jharkhand, died during treatment at Chennai hospital on Thursday morning. He was an MLA from the Dumari Assembly seat.

On March 14, Mahato experienced symptoms of illness during the Jharkhand Assembly session that was underway. He was taken to the Paras Hospital in Ranchi for treatment. His health began deteriorating, and Mahato was later transferred to the Chennai hospital for better treatment. While receiving the treatment, he passed away on Thursday morning.

Following the minister’s dismissal, a condolence meeting was held on the Collectorate grounds; the government declared two days of state mourning following Mahato’s death.

In September 2020, Mahato fell sick, and his COVID-19 report also tested positive. After a month-long treatment in Ranchi, on 19 October 2020, he was airlifted from Ranchi to Chennai as doctors did not find improvement in his health.

He was admitted to MGM Hospital in Chennai, where on October 28, the doctors reported lung ailment with ‘no’ improvement. Later his lung was transplanted on 10 November 2020.
