Govt. approves to import 470 aircraft to AI, 500 to Indigo

RNS: Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted in-principle approval to Air India Ltd. and Interglobe Aviation Ltd (Indigo) to import 470 and 500 aircraft, respectively.

Availability of parking slots is ensured at the time of grant of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the actual import of aircraft. The proposed timeline for the aircraft import spans from 2023 to 2035, according to the airlines’ induction plan.

However, information regarding the cost of acquiring these aircraft, which involves commercial agreements between the airlines and the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), is unavailable.

Furthermore, the DGCA has advised the airline operators to share their induction plan with airport operators to ensure the availability of parking slots during the specified period.

This information was provided by Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh (Retd.), Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in a written response to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha today.
