IIT-H, Kathmandu University forges alliance Joint Doctoral Program

Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) and Kathmandu University (KU) have signed a joint doctoral program (JDP) agreement to promote collaborative research and academic progress.

During a recent delegation visit from IIT-H to KU, both institutions solidified their commitment to enhancing their partnership and deepening their academic ties. The collaboration opens up exciting avenues for students from India and Nepal to engage in cutting-edge research across diverse fields encompassing science, technology, design, and medical innovation.

According to an official press statement, students admitted into the Joint Degree Program at Kathmandu University will have the unique opportunity to spend up to a year studying at IIT-H, facilitated by the support of an IIT-H scholarship. The initiative is aimed at leveraging the strengths of both institutions to accelerate the pursuit of pioneering research in areas of shared interest.

The partnership’s objective is to capitalize on the synergistic strengths of IIT-H and Kathmandu University to drive forward groundbreaking research. Starting from the upcoming academic year in August 2023, IIT-H will also host ten fourth-year B Tech students from KU, providing them with invaluable research exposure that is instrumental for their academic growth.

Moreover, IIT-H has also committed to providing short-term research internships to undergraduate students from Kathmandu University, thereby enhancing the students’ practical research experience. To tackle the challenges of mutual concern, both institutions have also committed to faculty exchanges, pooling their intellectual resources to address pressing issues faced by their respective nations.

The collaborative spirit extends beyond the realm of academia, as the partnership is poised to expand into domains such as medical technology, yoga, and heritage studies. With a focus on interdisciplinary research and shared knowledge, IIT-H and Kathmandu University are set to unlock new dimensions of innovation and progress.
