Alert issued in Jharkhand until June 16 amidst severe heat wave

Ranchi/Dhanbad: An alert has been issued in Jharkhand until June 16, as several districts are experiencing a severe heat wave. Starting from June 13, some districts are expected to see rainfall and possible thunderstorms, according to the Ranchi Meteorological Center located at the airport.

The Meteorological Center has indicated that there will be no significant change in the maximum temperature in the state over the next five days.

From June 13 to 15, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in some areas of the north-eastern, central, and southern parts of the state. The affected districts include Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Sahibganj, Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, and Saraikela-Kharsawan.

The Meteorological Center has also forecast light rain with thunderstorms in many parts of the state from June 16 to 18.

Severe heat wave conditions are anticipated in Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan on June 13. On June 14, these conditions may persist in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan. Other parts of the state may also experience heat wave conditions during these days. On June 15, heat wave conditions are expected in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Gumla, Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan. Severe heat wave conditions may continue in Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan on June 16.

From June 13 to 15, thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, are expected in the north-eastern, central, and southern parts of the state. The districts likely to be affected include Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Sahibganj, Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, and Saraikela-Kharsawan. On June 16, thunderstorms and lightning, along with strong winds, may occur in various parts of the state with similar wind speeds.

Residents of Jharkhand, including those in Dhanbad, can expect relief from the scorching heat soon as the monsoon has gained momentum. Monsoon rains have already reached Kerala and Karnataka.

Assistant Professor Vittal H from the Environment Department of IIT ISM explained that the monsoon entered Kerala in the first week of June, and it typically takes about 15 days to reach Jharkhand. Therefore, there is a high likelihood of rain next week, by June 15.

Kerala and Karnataka have already experienced good rainfall, and similar conditions are anticipated in Jharkhand according to estimates.
