NCU Library Hosts Three-Day Workshop on E-Databases

RNS: The Central Library of North Cap University (LIRC) successfully conducted a three-day workshop titled “From Access to Action: Exploring NCU Library E-Resources for Effective Teaching and Research” from June 11 to June 13, 2024.

The workshop commenced with an introductory session led by Dr. Vandana Khanna, Chairperson of the Library Committee. Dr. Khanna briefed faculty members and research scholars about the array of e-resources available through the NCU library, including e-databases, e-books, and the Web OPAC Koha software.

Ishwar Singh elaborated on the VPN (Virtual Private Network) that facilitates 24/7 access to the library’s e-resources.

Day one featured practical training on DELNET by Dr. Anil Kumar Jharotia, the Librarian of NorthCap University, specifically aimed at faculty members, research scholars, and library staff.

The second day included sessions by Alpana Sagwal and Indresh on the Springer Nature database, which focused on engineering e-resources and the publication process for research articles in Springer journals.

Concurrently, Ritesh and Sanjay Goswami conducted sessions on the EBSCO database, demonstrating effective search techniques for locating necessary articles.

On the final day, Vijay Pratap Singh provided practical training on the Koha Web OPAC library software, showing participants how to access NCU’s subscribed e-databases, re-issue books, and utilize the Web OPAC on smartphones. Additionally, Sanjay Ranjan offered insights into the ProQuest database, addressing faculty members’ queries with practical advice.

Lipika Malhan discussed the West Law Asia database, outlining its features and coverage, and explained how it allows access to international newspapers and magazines.

The workshop was especially beneficial for new faculty members, library staff, and PhD research scholars, enhancing their knowledge and utilization of the various databases available to the NCU community for teaching and research.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Anil Kumar Jharotia, who also presented NCU souvenirs to all invited speakers and trainers.
