Kanpur: The city is currently grappling with a surge in dengue cases, triggering widespread panic among residents. Health authorities report 2 to 3 new confirmed cases daily, increasing hospital visits as people seek treatment.
Dr. BP Priyadarshi, a professor in the Medicine Department at Medical College, stated that around 10 to 15 percent of patients visiting the outpatient department (OPD) of Hallet Hospital exhibit symptoms associated with dengue, including severe body and joint pain, weakness, fever with chills, and low platelet counts.
To address the growing health crisis, medical teams collect samples from approximately 50 to 60 individuals daily, with 2 or 3 tests returning positive for dengue. Many patients are also presenting with high fevers, necessitating hospital admissions.
Dr. Priyadarshi noted that a staggering 80 percent of those affected are aged between 20 and 50 years. He emphasized that individuals living outdoors are particularly at risk. The current situation has left residents feeling frightened and anxious.
In response to the outbreak, the medical department is actively working on preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus. Health officials urge the public to remain vigilant and take precautions against mosquito bites.
