IIT-ISM Professor Gajendra Vishwakarma Wins ISPS-2024 Best Researcher Award

Dhanbad: Professor Gajendra Kumar Vishwakarma, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computing at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, has been selected for the prestigious Professor K Srinivasa Rao Best Researcher Award by the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS) for the year 2024.

The award recognizes Professor Vishwakarma’s outstanding contributions to the field of statistics. His selection comes after being nominated multiple times in previous years—finishing as a runner-up in both 2022 and 2023, when he was edged out by professors from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur, respectively.

In a statement, Professor Vishwakarma expressed his satisfaction at finally securing the top honor, saying, “I am honored and delighted that my name has reached the final stage for this prestigious award. It is a recognition of my years of research and contributions to the field of statistics.”

Professor Vishwakarma’s academic excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including the Best Researcher Award at the 91st International Research Awards in Engineering, Science, and Management held in Pune in 2018.

The Professor K Srinivasa Rao Best Researcher Award will be formally presented to Professor Vishwakarma during the 44th Annual Convention of the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics, scheduled for December 2024.

The ISPS is one of India’s premier organizations dedicated to advancing the study of probability and statistics, and the award is named in honor of the distinguished statistician Professor K Srinivasa Rao.
