“Fostering a Greener Future”- BIT Mesra Hosts Biodiversity Workshop

Ranchi: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, hosted a one-day workshop titled “Biodiversity: Preserving Nature for a Sustainable Future”, emphasizing the crucial need for environmental conservation. The event was held in collaboration with the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board and saw participation from students and faculty of prominent institutions, including the National Biodiversity Board, Indian Institute of Science, Nalanda University, DSPMU, and other organizations from Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board, attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he underscored the urgent importance of biodiversity conservation and highlighted emerging career opportunities in this vital sector.

Renowned experts such as Prof. S.C. Santra, Prof. P.K. Mishra, Dr. Bhaskar Singh, and Dr. Hari Shankar Lal delivered insightful talks, focusing on the documentation of biodiversity and innovative strategies for environmental preservation.

The workshop also included vibrant discussions on the pivotal role of young people in protecting India’s ecological wealth. A poster competition further showcased students’ research initiatives, with several participants receiving awards for their outstanding contributions.

Dr. Sukalyan Chakraborty, the Organizing Secretary, concluded the event by expressing gratitude to all speakers, guests, and participants. He lauded the workshop as a successful step toward building a more sustainable and eco-conscious future.
