New Delhi: Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond swiftly and decisively to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Gandhi condemned the incident as a cold-blooded massacre and demanded immediate action from the government. “Twenty-six innocent people have been murdered in broad daylight, and the perpetrators are known. They must face the consequences,” he said.
28 people have been killed in a cold-blooded manner, and it’s clear who is responsible. Those responsible must pay the price. The Prime Minister must take decisive and strong action without delay or confusion.

Gandhi emphasized that the Prime Minister must not delay in responding. “This is not the time for hesitation or confusion. The Prime Minister must send a clear message that India will not tolerate such barbaric acts. He needs to act — and act soon,” he asserted.
The attack, carried out by terrorists linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was marked by extreme brutality. According to sources, the attackers forced victims to recite Islamic verses and checked for signs of non-Muslim identity through physical examination before executing them in front of their families, including women and children.
In response to the outrage, Prime Minister Modi has reportedly given the Indian armed forces full operational freedom to determine the nature, timing, and targets of a military response. The decision came following a high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
