Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a visit to Amaravati, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 58,000 crore on Friday. In a major push to infrastructure and regional development, the Prime Minister also officially dedicated the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala to the nation.
Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi described the projects as a cornerstone for Andhra Pradesh’s growth and a significant step toward achieving the vision of a developed India, Viksit Bharat. He emphasized the government’s decade-long focus on strengthening physical, digital, and social infrastructure, noting that India now ranks among the fastest-growing nations in terms of infrastructure development.
As part of the visit, Modi inaugurated the resumption of construction for Amaravati, envisioned as the state’s new capital. “Amaravati is not just a city, it is a dream—symbolic of a new Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

Among the key announcements was the foundation laying of DRDO’s Nava Durga missile testing range at Nagayalanka, which the Prime Minister hailed as a major boost to India’s defence capabilities. He also highlighted the upcoming EKTA Mall in Visakhapatnam, designed to promote regional handicrafts and strengthen the “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” initiative.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to farmers, Modi shared that the Centre has spent Rs 12 lakh crore over the past decade to provide affordable fertilisers and modern agricultural inputs.
In another announcement, the Prime Minister revealed that the 10th International Day of Yoga on June 21 will be celebrated in Visakhapatnam, calling on citizens to engage actively in yoga-related activities over the next 50 days.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed gratitude to PM Modi for his support of the Amaravati capital project and assured the state’s full cooperation in national development efforts. He also voiced strong backing for the Centre’s response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
