New Delhi: The Government of India has issued a strong advisory to all television channels, digital platforms, and individuals, directing them to refrain from live or real-time coverage of defence operations and the movement of security forces.
In a post shared on social media, the Ministry of Defence emphasized the importance of operational security, citing an earlier circular by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The advisory warned that disclosing sensitive or source-based information during active operations could compromise strategic missions and pose serious risks to the lives of personnel involved.

The Ministry underscored the gravity of the issue by referencing critical past incidents such as the Kargil War, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking, where premature or uncontrolled media reporting had serious implications.
As per the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, live coverage during anti-terror operations is strictly prohibited, with only authorized, periodic briefings by designated officials allowed. The advisory urged all media entities and content creators to uphold national interest by exercising discretion, responsibility, and sensitivity in their reporting.
The move reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring operational security and safeguarding the lives of defence and security personnel in active zones.
