India gets new BrahMos manufacturing & testing facility in Lucknow

Lucknow: In a major boost to India’s defence manufacturing capabilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow on Sunday.

The newly established centre is set to become a cornerstone of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC), reflecting the country’s push for self-reliance in defence production.

Hailing the timely completion of the project, Singh praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his leadership. “BrahMos is not just a missile; it is a message to adversaries and a symbol of India’s growing power,” Singh remarked during the ceremony.

Sprawled across 22 acres, the Rs 300-crore facility will support the production, integration, and testing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, with an annual manufacturing target of 80 to 100 units. It also includes a materials complex dedicated to producing aerospace-grade components, significantly enhancing the state’s industrial ecosystem.

The inauguration comes a day after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire across all domains—land, air, and sea—underscoring the strategic importance of bolstering national defence infrastructure amid regional tensions.

Singh also referenced the recent Operation Sindoor, describing it as a demonstration of India’s political, strategic, and military resolve against terrorism. “India has shown that no safe haven will remain for terrorists, even beyond its borders,” he asserted.

Highlighting the Indo-Russian collaboration behind BrahMos, Singh drew a symbolic comparison: “Just as Prayagraj is known for its sacred confluence, Lucknow will now be known for the technological ‘sangam’ that BrahMos represents.”

He emphasized that self-reliance in defence includes both domestic fulfilment and global export of advanced weaponry. With over 180 MoUs already signed and Rs 4,000 crore of the proposed Rs 34,000 crore investment materialized, the UP Defence Corridor is poised to transform the state into a defence manufacturing powerhouse.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lauded the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and echoed the need for unwavering action against terrorism. He stated that the BrahMos facility would not only strengthen national security but also create extensive employment and development opportunities across the region.

The Lucknow BrahMos unit is expected to be a game-changer in India’s journey toward becoming a global defence exporter.
