Bokaro: BJP State Working Committee member Kumar Amit on Wednesday visited the Sonabad site in Chas block to inspect the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s rural tap-water scheme. Expressing concern over the sluggish pace of work, he warned that if the project is not completed on time, public protests will follow.
The scheme, a flagship initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide piped drinking water to every rural household. In Chas block alone, the plan involves laying pipelines and constructing water towers at ten locations to serve around 40,000 families across all panchayats, benefiting an estimated 2.5 lakh people.
Kumar Amit blamed the state government for the delay, citing non-payment of dues to the executing agency despite central funds already being disbursed. The agency confirmed that halted payments have severely impacted progress, making the June deadline appear unlikely.
Calling the delay unacceptable, Amit accused the Jharkhand government of negligence and vowed to fully support the implementing agency while ensuring villagers receive the scheme’s promised benefits. He also pledged to lead protests if the project continues to stall.
Local villagers, including Karan Gorai, Dhananjay Kar, Ratan Mahato, and others, were present during the inspection.
