Bokaro: With temperatures soaring above 43°C, local cultural organization ‘Hum Sub’ has stepped up to provide much-needed relief to commuters by launching free water kiosks (Piaos) at Bokaro Steel City.

The first kiosk was inaugurated at Naya More, Kali Puja Sthan, by Parmatma Sharma, president of the organization.

Applauding the initiative, Sharma said, “It’s a commendable step taken by members of the organisation. More citizens and organizations should come forward to support such noble causes.”

The initiative aims to ensure access to safe drinking water, especially for those who cannot afford bottled water priced at Rs 20–25 per liter. “Clean drinking water is a basic necessity. Many illnesses during summer are waterborne, and this effort will help protect people’s health,” said Ajay Tiwari, a member of the group.

According to Rajesh Kumar and Ranjay Kumar, more kiosks will soon be installed at various locations around the city. Currently, each unit features two earthen pots covered with cloth to keep the water cool and hygienic.

“We plan to introduce permanent kiosks with water-cooling systems in the near future,” added Ranjay Kumar. Board member Abhay Raju shared that each unit will operate round the clock and be equipped with earthen vessels, mugs, dustbins, and glasses for public use. The kiosks will be installed in phases to cover wider areas gradually.

Present at the inauguration were several active members including Guddu, Rajesh, Ranjay, Laltu Singh, Bijay Thakur, and Raies, all united in their mission to serve the community during the intense summer heat.

The thoughtful initiative by ‘Hum Sub’ not only quenches thirst but also reflects a deeper commitment to public welfare and civic responsibility in challenging weather conditions.
