New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a directive to all states, instructing them to form Special Task Forces (STFs) in every district to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants within a 30-day timeframe.
According to official sources, the MHA has empowered state governments to carry out this operation independently, while working in coordination with central agencies. The move is part of a nationwide effort to crack down on undocumented foreign nationals residing in India.
As per a communication accessed by The New Indian Express, the STFs have been tasked with gathering detailed information on suspected illegal immigrants. This includes their full names, parents’ names, addresses, and details of close relatives.
Once identified, individuals will be relocated to designated holding centres after undergoing thorough verification. The MHA has also mandated the collection of biometric and demographic data, which is to be uploaded to the Foreigners’ Identification Portal.
Following verification, the illegal migrants will be transferred to the custody of the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, or the Indian Coast Guard, depending on the region.
Authorities have been instructed to complete the entire process—including identification, verification, data recording, and deportation—within the next 30 days.
