Ranchi: In a significant move for public safety, the Jharkhand government has issued new guidelines banning the keeping, breeding, sale, and purchase of certain aggressive dog breeds, including Pitbull, Rottweiler, and Dogo Argentino.
As per the directive, individuals who wish to keep these breeds must obtain prior permission from the relevant authority. Without approval, owning or walking these dogs in public places will be considered a punishable offense.
The guidelines also state that violators may face fines, legal action under the Indian Justice Code, 2023, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. In some cases, authorities may confiscate the pet.
The District Animal Husbandry Officer emphasized that although restrictions on such breeds were already in place, some people continue to keep them illegally. He warned that accountability will be enforced and strict action taken against defaulters.
