Spy in Uniform: CRPF Jawan Arrested by NIA for Leaking Intel to Pak

New Delhi: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the national capital on charges of espionage. The accused, identified as Moti Ram Jat, was taken into custody on allegations of leaking sensitive information to Pakistan’s intelligence operatives since 2023.

Sources said that Jat had been under internal surveillance by CRPF higher-ups due to questionable activity on social media platforms during his posting in Kashmir. Preliminary investigations suggest he had been in direct contact with Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs) and was involved in passing on classified information that posed a threat to national security.

The CRPF and central intelligence agencies jointly interrogated the accused before handing him over to the NIA. He was formally arrested after the agency registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Jat was produced before a special court at Patiala House in Delhi, which remanded him to NIA custody until June 6. Officials revealed that he received monetary compensation through intermediaries for the intelligence he allegedly shared.

Following the gravity of the charges, the CRPF has dismissed Moti Ram Jat from service. The NIA is now intensifying its probe to trace the full extent of the espionage network and identify any possible collaborators.
