Jakarta/New Delhi: In a significant departure from the Congress party’s usual stance, senior leader Salman Khurshid has lauded the Modi government’s abrogation of Article 370, calling it a “historic step” that has ushered in prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in Indonesia as part of India’s global outreach mission led by multi-party delegations, Khurshid highlighted the positive developments in the region post the 2019 constitutional move that revoked the former state’s special status.
“Kashmir had long struggled with a sense of separation due to Article 370. Its removal ended that perception, and since then we’ve seen remarkable changes—including a recent election with 65% voter turnout,” Khurshid stated during an official interaction.
MASSIVE RESET: Salman Khurshid: Art 370 gave outsiders the impression J&K was separate from India, but its abrogation, high voter turnout & elected govt prove it is integral to India.”

He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir now has an elected government and is witnessing tangible progress, cautioning against attempts to reverse this trajectory. “To undo the prosperity now seen in Kashmir would be a serious setback,” he warned.
Khurshid also challenged Pakistan’s narrative on Kashmir during the diplomatic briefing, reinforcing India’s united front on counter-terrorism and territorial integrity. His remarks come as part of the Indian government’s wider initiative to inform global partners about Operation Sindoor and the evolving situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khurshid is among the key figures in one of seven multi-party delegations dispatched to 33 global capitals to counter disinformation and advocate for India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.
