New York/Ahmedabad: Shares of Boeing Co. plunged by 7.8% in U.S. premarket trading on Thursday following the tragic crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport when it went down in a densely populated civilian area near Meghaninagar, triggering a massive emergency response.
According to Flightradar data, the ill-fated aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying over 230 people onboard—including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese passengers, and one Canadian. Eyewitnesses reported thick plumes of smoke rising from the Dharpur area, where the crash occurred.
Rescue operations were immediately launched, with multiple fire brigades and emergency teams deployed to the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, which remains undetermined at this time.
Boeing issued a brief statement acknowledging the incident: “We are aware of initial reports and are working to gather more information.”
