New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a crucial three-nation tour to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, aimed at bolstering India’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic engagements across Europe and North America.
The visit kicks off with Cyprus, marking the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the Mediterranean nation in over two decades. Cyprus has been a long-standing supporter of India’s stance on Kashmir, cross-border terrorism, and UN Security Council reforms, making the visit symbolically and strategically important.
During his time in Cyprus, PM Modi will hold talks with President Nikos Christodoulides, covering a wide agenda including trade and investment, digital connectivity, education, maritime collaboration, and regional security.
According to the reports, Indian High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish, emphasized that the visit will “add a new dimension to bilateral ties” and enhance historical trade and maritime connections between the two nations. He noted that Cyprus’ Vision 2035 and India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 have strong synergy, laying the foundation for deeper cooperation in key sectors.
He also highlighted the scope for growth in technology, investment, and cultural exchange, and expressed confidence that the meeting will result in a comprehensive roadmap for future collaboration.
After Cyprus, Prime Minister Modi will head to Canada to participate in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis on June 16–17, marking his sixth consecutive appearance at the Summit. There, he is expected to engage in discussions with world leaders on global challenges such as energy security, emerging technologies, climate change, and the AI-energy nexus, with a special emphasis on quantum technologies. Several bilateral meetings on the sidelines are also anticipated.
The final leg of the tour takes the Prime Minister to Croatia on June 18, in what will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. The visit is expected to unlock new potential in India-Croatia relations, with Croatia being viewed as a strategic partner in the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. The visit also underscores India’s commitment to deepening ties with European Union member states.
With key diplomatic engagements lined up across all three countries, PM Modi’s multi-nation tour is set to advance India’s foreign policy objectives, diversify strategic partnerships, and open new pathways of cooperation in sectors ranging from trade and energy to technology and education.
