India-Croatia Relations Get a Boost as Modi Signs Key Agreements in Zagreb

News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his landmark first official visit to Croatia with the signing of four significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), signaling a new chapter in India-Croatia relations.

The visit, marked by high-level discussions and a warm diplomatic reception, laid a robust foundation for enhanced strategic cooperation across sectors.

During his day-long tour, Prime Minister Modi held comprehensive bilateral talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković at the historic Banski Dvori. The two leaders issued a joint statement, reaffirming their commitment to global peace, democratic values, and deeper collaboration in trade, technology, culture, and innovation.

In his remarks, PM Modi emphasized India’s consistent position on resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, asserting that lasting solutions—whether in Europe or Asia—cannot emerge from warfare. He also reiterated India’s firm stance on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.

Condemning terrorism as a global menace, PM Modi thanked the Croatian government and citizens for their solidarity following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. He described Croatia’s support as a testament to the strength of the bilateral friendship.

The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in emerging and high-potential areas such as Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture, Information Technology, Renewable Energy, Clean and Digital Technologies, and Semiconductors. They also discussed strengthening ties in shipbuilding, cybersecurity, and defence. A long-term Defence Cooperation Plan is being developed, which will include joint training, personnel exchanges, and industrial collaboration.

The signing of four MoUs was a key highlight of the visit:

  • MoU on Agriculture and Allied Sectors – Aimed at promoting innovation and best practices in farming and food processing.
  • Cultural Exchange Programme (2026–2030) – Designed to foster deeper people-to-people ties through arts, heritage, and cultural outreach.
  • Science & Technology Cooperation (2025–2029) – A framework to enhance joint research and technological development.
  • Hindi Chair at the University of Zagreb – A cultural milestone that will promote Hindi language and Indian studies in Croatia.

The visit has not only elevated India-Croatia bilateral ties but also projected India’s growing role in Europe’s strategic landscape. PM Modi is now en route to New Delhi, concluding what many observers are calling a transformative moment in India’s global diplomatic outreach.
