BTTD-2025: Future Metallurgists Shine at National Seminar Hosted by CSIR-NML and IIM Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The 14th edition of Behind The Teacher’s Desk (BTTD-2025), a national seminar for metallurgy students, concluded with a vibrant valedictory ceremony at NIT Jamshedpur.

The three-day event was jointly organized by the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter, CSIR–NML, Tata Steel, and NIT Jamshedpur.

The seminar brought together over 150 students and experts from across India, with 78 technical papers presented across 12 sessions. It served as a dynamic platform for budding metallurgists to engage in academic exchange, expert talks, quizzes, and industrial exposure.

A keynote address by Deeba Ahmed, Chief HRBP at Tata Steel, on career development and mental well-being highlighted Day 2, while the valedictory session featured Swastika Basu, MD of JAMIPOL, as Chief Guest. She praised the initiative’s integrated format, combining academics with industrial relevance.

Prof. Ashok Kumar led a feedback session, encouraging participant suggestions for future improvements.

A special felicitation was held for B.K. Singh, honoring his contributions to metallurgy education and the IIM community.

Convener Dr. Premkumar (CSIR-NML), Dr. Poulami Maji (NIT), and Shri Manish Bhadu (Tata Steel) thanked participants for their active involvement. Awards were presented to 19 students for Best Presentations and 6 winners of the Meta-Quiz.

The event ended on a high note with a cultural evening and the announcement of industry visits on June 27 to Tata Steel and associated plants, offering students hands-on industrial learning.
