DVC Chandrapura Eyes Renewable Energy Growth, Celebrates Foundation Day with Cultural Fest

Chandrapura: The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is making a determined push toward renewable energy, with plans to expand solar and hydropower generation alongside its existing thermal operations. As part of its future roadmap, DVC has proposed setting up a 1600 MW thermal power plant and a 10 MW solar plant in Chandrapura—a move expected to bolster both regional development and national energy goals.

This announcement was made by Senior General Manager and Project Head-in-Charge Avijit Ghosh during the Foundation Day celebrations of DVC at the Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS). Addressing a gathering of officials and employees, Ghosh highlighted DVC’s long-standing commitment to public welfare, noting that the corporation has played a transformative role in the lives of people living along the Damodar River.

“DVC was established for human welfare, and we have remained true to that vision. Now, with our shift toward renewable energy, we aim to contribute even more significantly to the nation’s development,” Ghosh stated.

Senior General Manager (Human Resources), Dr. D.C. Pandey, echoed the sentiment, calling DVC’s journey a “moment of pride” for the nation and underlined the need for sustained efforts to preserve its legacy for future generations.

The event was marked by a vibrant cultural evening featuring a range of performances that celebrated the region’s artistic diversity. Highlights included classical Bharatnatyam and Kathak by Tanushree Ghosh, folk and solo dances by students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, DVC +2 High School, and DVC First Middle School, and soulful singing and poetry recitations by local talents including Sharmishtha Mukherjee, Neelam Gupta, and Gangaram Bhandari.

Among the dignitaries present were RR Ojha, Deepak Kumar, Lalan Prasad Gupta, Dr. P.K. Ghosh, Parvind Kumar, and CISF Deputy Commandant Mohammad Mehrul Islam Lashkar, along with other DVC officers and staff.
