Ranchi: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra celebrated its 71st Foundation Day at the CAT Hall with a vibrant ceremony reflecting on its Platinum Jubilee journey and charting a bold vision for the future.
The event began with the traditional lamp-lighting and institute prayer, followed by a welcome address from Professor Shradha Shivani, Dean of Alumni and International Relations. A short film showcased highlights from the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Vice Chancellor Professor Indranil Manna lauded the institute’s legacy, stating, “BIT Mesra is among the only three post-independence institutes to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. We were the first deemed university in eastern India in 1986 and now meet all UGC 2023 and EICT norms, with over 90% of UG programs NBA-accredited. We aim to strengthen our presence in industry and research.”
Guest of Honour, Dr. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi from IIT Kanpur, praised BIT’s vision, adding, “The institution’s post-independence foundation reflects nation-building aspirations. I believe BIT will soon be among India’s top 10 institutes.”
Chief Guest Dr. Ganesh Natrajan, a distinguished alumnus and Chairman of 5F World, called on the community to seize emerging opportunities in AI and innovation. “Alumni can play a key role in placing India at the forefront of tech research. As Swami Vivekananda said, ‘Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.’”
At noon, an award ceremony honoured distinguished alumni for their contributions across fields, including Prof. Prateek Kishore, Mr. Pradeep Dubey, Mr. Manish Tiwary, Dr. Divya Tewari and others. A separate award segment recognized exceptional students from the Architecture Department.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Prof. Sudip Das, followed by the national anthem.
