Patna: The Water Resources Department of Bihar has issued a high alert following a sudden rise in the water level of the Falgu River, triggered by heavy rainfall in neighboring Jharkhand.
On Wednesday, the water level at the Manpur Bridge Gauge Station touched 112.86 meters — 0.50 meters above the previous highest mark. Additionally, Uderasthan Barrage recorded a record discharge of 1,15,308 cusecs at 11 am, the highest ever.
A breach was earlier reported near Dhuribigha in Nalanda due to overtopping. Prompt capping and flood protection measures were undertaken by the department at the site.
In response to the situation, senior officials have been deployed across vulnerable stretches of Falgu and its tributaries to assist regional teams in protecting embankments and critical structures. Key areas under watch include Ekangarasarai, Sohrapur Bridge, Arai Weir, and the Punpun flood-prone zones across Nalanda and Patna districts.
Additional and Joint Secretaries, along with technical advisors, are stationed across these high-risk areas to ensure rapid response.
The department confirmed that round-the-clock monitoring is underway and assured full preparedness to handle any flood emergency.
