Bokaro: The two-day 3rd Bokaro District Yogasana Sport Championship commenced on Friday at Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro, in association with the Bokaro District Yogasana Sport Association (BDYSA).
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 350 boys and girls representing various schools across the district.
The championship was inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome song, the school anthem, and a yoga-based dance performance that set the tone for the event. Participants are competing in traditional and artistic Yogasana disciplines across Under-9, Under-14 (Sub-Junior) and Under-18 (Junior) categories.
Manoj Tiwari, President of the Jharkhand State Yogasana Sport Association, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the importance of yoga, stating, “Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic path to inner peace, harmony with nature, and overall well-being.”
Prashant Singh, State Treasurer of the Association and Secretary of the Latehar District Unit, attended as the Special Guest. He spoke on the role of Ashtanga Yoga in inculcating discipline among youth and announced that the Yogasana World Cup would be held in March 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to include Yogasana in the Olympic Games.
Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal of DPS Bokaro and President of BDYSA, said the championship was not just about competition but about celebrating yoga as India’s cultural treasure. “Yoga is both ancient and modern, a global symbol of India’s contribution to wellness. It is our collective responsibility to promote and preserve it,” he said.
The championship is being supervised by an expert technical team including Chandu Kumar, Pooja Singh, Amya Anshu, Abhijeet Patra, Sunita Kumari Mishra, Sheetal Kumari, Krishna Prasad Mahto, Jyotika Vishwakarma, and Ritika.
Winners will be felicitated at the closing ceremony on Saturday, marking the conclusion of this vibrant celebration of youth, health, and heritage.
