Bihar Completes Voter Roll Revision Across All 243 Constituencies

Bihar SIR Drive Ends: 64 Lakh Voter Names May Be Deleted

Patna : The month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll has officially concluded across all 243 assembly constituencies in Bihar, marking a major milestone ahead of the upcoming elections.

The drive, which began on June 24, allowed voters to verify and update their details by submitting enumeration forms to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or via the online portal. The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported strong public participation, with over 99.8% of electors covered by July 25, reflecting voters’ active engagement and trust in the process.

As per the ECI, voters who submitted forms will see their names included in the Draft Electoral Roll set to be published on August 1. From August 1 to September 1, citizens and political parties can file claims and objections for any corrections or inclusions via prescribed forms.

Preliminary findings from the SIR have revealed significant discrepancies:

  • 22 lakh voters reported dead

  • 7 lakh voters found registered in multiple locations

  • 35 lakh electors either migrated or untraceable

Based on these findings, nearly 64 lakh voter entries are expected to be deleted from the roll, ensuring a more accurate and credible electoral list.

The massive exercise involved:

  • 38 District Election Officers (DEOs)

  • 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)

  • 2,976 Assistant EROs

  • Around 78,000 BLOs

  • Along with 1.6 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and representatives of all 12 recognized political parties

The completion of this revision marks a crucial step towards conducting free and fair elections in Bihar.
