President Murmu Hails AIIMS Deoghar for Drone Medicine Delivery in Tribal Areas

Deoghar, Jharkhand: President Droupadi Murmu, during her address at the first Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar, lauded the institution for its transformative role in tribal healthcare and its commitment to inclusive medical education.

Applauding AIIMS Deoghar for adopting five tribal villages to provide primary healthcare within just six years of its inception, President Murmu said the institute has emerged as a Centre of Competence for Tribal Health, setting a benchmark in rural medical outreach. She praised AIIMS for leveraging drone technology to deliver medicines to remote areas and offering critical health advice to underserved communities.

Recognizing academic excellence, President Murmu felicitated the top performers and gold medalists, highlighting with pride that over 50% of the awardees were women. She commended the institution for achieving a balanced gender ratio in medical admissions, calling it a significant stride in empowering women in the medical field.

Calling on future doctors to remain compassionate in their service, President Murmu stressed the need to stay clinically sharp but emotionally sensitive in patient care. She encouraged the AIIMS community to align their efforts with national and state-level Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly in areas such as neonatal mortality, malnutrition, Sickle Cell Anaemia, and Thalassemia.

Referencing India’s milestone in Kala Azar elimination, she urged young doctors to become change agents in public health, contributing meaningfully to building a healthier nation.

AIIMS Deoghar was conceptualized under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, with PM Narendra Modi laying its foundation on May 25, 2018, at a cost of ₹1,103 crore. It was formally inaugurated on July 12, 2022, when the Prime Minister inaugurated the Inpatient Department and operation theatre.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari, MP Nishikant Dubey, Union Health Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma, and senior officials of AIIMS Deoghar including Chairman Dr. N.K. Arora and Executive Director Dr. Saurabh Varshney.
