Vinod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University Marks 79th Independence Day with Patriotic Zeal

Dhanbad: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Vinod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (VBMKU) on Thursday. Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ram Kumar Singh unfurled the tricolour at both the old campus in the morning and the new campus at 10 a.m., marking the occasion with a call for unity, dedication, and institutional growth.

The celebrations began with Prof. Singh garlanding the life-size statue of the late Binod Bihari Mahto, followed by an inspection of the NCC cadets. After the national anthem, he addressed the gathering, urging teachers and non-teaching staff to work sincerely for the university’s progress. “Seniors must guide juniors, and I see myself always as both a teacher and a learner,” he said, promising swift action on faculty promotions, expansion of the campus, and the construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium with full government support.

Public Relations Officer Dr. Mukund Ravidas announced this year’s honours: the Best Teacher Award went to Dr. D.K. Giri, while Dr. Masoof Ahmed was recognised for his long-standing contribution as NSS Coordinator. The Best Non-Teaching Staff Award was presented to Saurabh Singha.

Adding a vibrant touch to the celebrations, students from the Department of Art and Culture performed patriotic songs and cultural dances. NSS volunteers showcased a colourful tableau themed Unity in Diversity and Har Ghar Tiranga.

The event was attended by senior faculty members, including Dr. Pushpa Kumari, and conducted by Dr. Himanshu Chaudhary and Tapti Chakraborty, concluding with cheers of “Jai Hind!” echoing across the campus.
