New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a four-day visit to Japan and China from August 29 to September 1, marking a significant diplomatic engagement with Asia’s two major powers.
Modi will begin his tour in Tokyo on August 29–30 to attend the 15th India–Japan Annual Summit, his first such meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. This will also be Modi’s eighth visit to Japan, underlining the growing depth of the India–Japan special strategic and global partnership.
During talks, both leaders are expected to review cooperation in defense, security, trade, economy, technology, and innovation, while also addressing pressing regional and global challenges.
In the second leg, the Prime Minister will travel to Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1 to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. On the sidelines, he is likely to hold bilateral meetings with several global leaders.
India has been a full member of the SCO since 2017 and chaired the Council of Heads of State during 2022–23, positioning itself as an active voice in the Eurasian security and economic grouping.
Modi’s back-to-back visits to Tokyo and Tianjin are being seen as an effort to balance India’s strategic ties in East Asia, while advancing its role in regional security, trade, and multilateral diplomacy.
