Sergio Gor to Be New US Ambassador to India, Says It’s ‘Honor of My Life’

Washington: In a significant diplomatic move, US President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor as the next American Ambassador to India, even as ties with New Delhi face strains over steep tariff measures.

Announcing the decision on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.”

Gor, currently serving as Director of Presidential Personnel, has overseen the hiring of nearly 4,000 officials across federal agencies. A longtime Trump loyalist, he previously managed campaign operations, published Trump’s best-selling books, and led a powerful pro-Trump Super PAC.

Trump called Gor a trusted aide for the “most populous region in the world,” saying: “It is important that I have someone I fully trust to deliver on my agenda. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador.”

Reacting to the announcement, Gor expressed gratitude on X (formerly Twitter): “Beyond grateful to President Trump for his trust and confidence… It will be the honor of my life to represent the United States in India.”

Gor will continue in his White House role until Senate confirmation. His appointment comes at a critical moment in India–US relations, with Washington’s recent tariff hikes sparking diplomatic friction.
