Tianjin: On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from Asia, Africa and beyond, underlining India’s growing global engagement.
Modi met the Presidents of Maldives, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, along with the Prime Ministers of Egypt and Nepal. In a social media post, he expressed delight over the interactions, calling them productive and forward-looking.
During talks with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Modi noted that India and Kazakhstan are deepening cooperation in energy, security, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. With Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, he emphasized that trade and cultural linkages are expanding rapidly — “a very positive sign,” he said.
In his meeting with Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Modi highlighted that India’s development cooperation is directly benefiting the people of both nations. With Nepal’s Prime Minister K. P. Oli, he described India-Nepal ties as “very special and deeply rooted.”
The discussions showcased India’s strategic outreach across its neighborhood and Central Asia, as Modi leveraged the SCO platform for strengthening partnerships in energy, trade, security, and people-to-people ties.
