New Delhi/Kabul: In the wake of a devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Afghanistan late Sunday, claiming over 800 lives and injuring many more, India has swiftly sent humanitarian aid to the affected areas.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar spoke with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, expressing condolences for the loss of lives. In a social media post, Dr. Jaishankar confirmed that India has delivered tents for 1,000 families in Kabul and dispatched 15 tonnes of relief material from the Indian Mission in Kabul to Kunar province. He added that further relief shipments will be sent from India starting tomorrow.

“The thoughts and prayers of India are with the victims, and we stand firmly with Afghanistan in this difficult time,” Dr. Jaishankar wrote, wishing a speedy recovery for those injured.
Taliban authorities reported that rescue operations were underway in the earthquake-affected mountainous regions. The tremors, felt as far as Kabul and Islamabad, collapsed homes and disrupted normal life, prompting urgent international relief efforts.
This rapid response underscores India’s commitment to supporting neighboring countries during natural calamities, combining immediate relief with ongoing humanitarian assistance.
