Dhanbad: Making her city proud, 10th-grader Prachi Priya has clinched a gold medal at the National Karate Championship held in Bengaluru from September 16 to 18.
Prachi, a student from Dhanbad-Bokaro district, represented Bihar and Jharkhand alongside 9th-grader Kritika Singh Rathore of Denobili School, Dhanbad. In the Under-17 category, Prachi displayed sheer determination to defeat Karnataka 1-4 and secure the top podium spot. The championship was organized under the banner of the CISCE Games and Sports 2025.
A Hero’s Welcome in Dhanbad
Returning home on Thursday, Prachi was given a grand reception at Hirapur water tank, where Dhanbad police station in-charge R.N. Thakur welcomed her with flowers. Residents, friends, and relatives cheered her arrival, while her proud mother and neighbors performed an aarti at Loknath Bhavan, Hirapur.

Sharing her excitement, Prachi said, “Winning gold while representing Dhanbad and my school at the national level is an unforgettable moment in my life. This medal is the result of my coach’s training, my parents’ support, and encouragement from my teachers.” Prachi trains at XMA Academy, Mega Sports Complex, Dhanbad.
Family and Community Pride
Her father, Vimlesh Kumar Chauhan, said, “It’s a matter of great pride for us and for Dhanbad. Our daughter has shown that there’s no difference between sons and daughters.”
Police officer R.N. Thakur also praised her, saying, “Prachi’s achievement has brought honor to Dhanbad. We congratulate her, her family, and teachers, and wish her greater success ahead.”
