New Delhi/Kuala Lumpur: India has clinched the prestigious International Social Security Association (ISSA) Award 2025 for Outstanding Achievement in Social Security, marking a milestone in the country’s welfare journey.
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya accepted the award at the World Social Security Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday. Calling it a recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for inclusive welfare, Mandaviya said the honour reflects India’s success in delivering social security benefits efficiently through a robust digital public infrastructure.

He highlighted the remarkable growth in coverage—from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, now safeguarding over 940 million citizens. The e-Shram portal, which has registered more than 300 million workers from the unorganised sector in just four years, was especially lauded by ISSA as a model of transformative innovation.
The Ministry said this recognition places India among the world’s leading nations in social protection systems, making it only the fifth country ever to receive the award.
