RNS: In a significant escalation of cross-border tensions, the Taliban has initiated a series of coordinated attacks targeting Pakistan’s Frontier Corps positions and infrastructure along the Durand Line. The offensive, described by sources as a deliberate signal to Islamabad, marks the most intense violence in the region since 2021.
Footage obtained from the Dangam and Birkot sectors in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nangarhar provinces shows intense artillery barrages striking Pakistani positions, alongside heavy shelling and drone-assisted attacks. These assaults have reportedly affected Pakistani check posts in Kurram, Bajaur, and North Waziristan.

According to CNN-News18, Taliban officials confirmed that the group carried out simultaneous retaliatory operations from Helmand, Paktia, Kunar, Nangarhar, and Khost provinces. The surge in attacks coincided with overnight explosions in Kabul, which occurred as the Taliban’s foreign minister held high-level discussions in New Delhi with senior Indian officials on Friday.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief spokesperson, confirmed the Kabul blasts near midnight but provided no further information, stating that the incidents are under investigation.
The timing and scale of these attacks have raised concerns about the stability of the region and the potential for further escalation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for restraint and dialogue between the involved parties.
