New Delhi/Srinagar: Indian security agencies have sounded a high alert after fresh intelligence inputs warned of a significant surge in Pakistan-backed terrorism across Jammu & Kashmir. According to assessments accessed by media, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have regrouped and are preparing for coordinated, high-impact attacks in the coming weeks.

Infiltration Spike Along LoC

Sources report a sharp rise in infiltration attempts since September, aided by Pakistan’s ISI and Special Services Group (SSG). Multiple LeT and JeM squads are believed to have slipped through the Line of Control recently.

A LeT module led by terrorist Shamsher reportedly used drones for aerial surveillance to spot weak security spots — sparking concerns of possible fidayeen assaults, cross-border raids, or aerial weapon drops.

Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BAT) — combining ex-SSG commandos and militants — are once again active along Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, signalling a renewed threat to Indian Army posts.

Officials have termed the situation one of the most serious escalations since Operation Sindoor, the security crackdown that significantly blunted terror operations in the Valley.

ISI Push to Revive Sleeper Cells

Intelligence suggests Pakistan’s ISI held key meetings in October bringing together leaders of banned groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Jamaat-e-Islami. The objective: revive sleeper cells, restore funding routes, and avenge operational losses.

Handlers have instructed operatives to target:

  • Security forces

  • Political workers

  • Local administrative representatives

There is also increasing focus on narco-terror networks and arms smuggling corridors through Punjab and Rajasthan.

Pakistan Seeks to Disrupt Stability

The alert comes at a time when Jammu & Kashmir is witnessing improved tourism, electoral activity and a sense of normalcy. Officials believe Pakistan is trying to derail this momentum amid its internal political and economic crisis.

New Delhi has issued a “critical alert” and placed the Northern Command on heightened vigilance. Sources indicate that if hostilities persist, Operation Sindoor could enter a fresh phase.

Winter Offensive Worries

Winter traditionally slows down infiltration due to harsh terrain — but the ongoing surge hints at a deliberate winter offensive to challenge Indian defences. The alert also coincides with the tri-service Exercise Trishul underway along the western border.

As India steps up surveillance across vulnerable sectors, security agencies warn the coming weeks will be crucial in foiling Pakistan’s renewed terror push.
