
Jakarta: At least 54 people, including children and teachers, were injured when a powerful explosion tore through a mosque inside a school complex in Indonesia’s capital during Friday prayers, police said.
The blast occurred around 12:30 pm local time inside a mosque located within a Navy compound in North Jakarta’s Kelapa Gading area. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the explosion, and an investigation is currently underway.

Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri said several victims sustained serious burn injuries, while others suffered cuts and bruises. “We are still determining what triggered the blast,” Suheri told reporters.
Emergency services swiftly cordoned off the site as ambulances ferried the injured to nearby hospitals. Footage aired by local broadcasters KompasTV and MetroTV showed police sealing off the area, with rescue teams and medical personnel on standby.
Officials said forensic experts are examining the scene to identify the source of the explosion, which sent panic through the compound during the busy prayer hour.
