News Desk: Elon Musk made a high-profile comeback to the White House on Tuesday night, joining a candlelit state dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump in honour of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — a moment widely viewed as a turning point in their once-bitter feud.
It was Musk’s first public appearance in Washington since his clash with Trump earlier this year, a fallout triggered by Musk’s blistering criticism of Trump’s sweeping “Big Beautiful Bill.” The Tesla and SpaceX chief warned the legislation would blow up the national debt, while Trump’s camp accused Musk of protecting his own interests as electric-vehicle incentives were phased out.
The dispute escalated into a very public brawl: Trump threatened to yank government contracts from Musk’s companies, wiping out billions in market value as Tesla stock nosedived. Musk, in retaliation, floated the idea of launching a third political force — the “America Party” — though it never took off.

Signs of a Thaw
Their relationship has been gradually warming since a brief September meeting at conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s memorial. Trump has since struck a conciliatory tone — “I like Elon… I’ve always liked him,” he told reporters — while Musk admitted some of his earlier posts “went too far.”
Tuesday night’s dinner cemented that reset.
The guest list was a heavyweight mix of global business and political figures: Apple’s Tim Cook, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Pfizer’s Albert Bourla, Paramount’s David Ellison, FIFA chief Gianni Infantino and even football icon Cristiano Ronaldo.
A Strategic Reconciliation
Diplomats and analysts view Musk’s presence as more than symbolic. The Financial Times reported that Musk has quietly resumed support for Republican causes, abandoning talk of a new political party. In return, the Trump administration appears to be reopening doors: Musk ally Jared Isaacman has been renominated to head NASA, and Musk’s AI venture, xAI, is believed to have secured favourable government deals.
The timing is especially significant as Trump deepens strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, announcing major agreements spanning F-35 jets, nuclear cooperation and AI.
What Musk’s Return Signals
For Washington watchers, Tuesday night was a clear message that one of America’s most powerful tech figures is re-entering the centre of political gravity. For Musk, it marks a restored channel to influence national policy. For Trump, it brings an influential billionaire back into his inner orbit at a time of sweeping geopolitical realignment.
And for the tech and business worlds, the reunion could reshape everything from AI regulation to space policy in the months ahead.
