Nitish Kumar Takes Oath for Historic 10th Term as Bihar Chief Minister

Patna: Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar was sworn in on Thursday for a record 10th term as Bihar Chief Minister, marking a major political milestone at a grand ceremony held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.

The event saw the presence of top National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, underscoring the significance of the mandate delivered in the 2025 Assembly elections.

BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers, as the new government prepares to tackle Bihar’s persistent challenges of poverty and unemployment. In all, 19 MLAs, including both deputy CMs, were sworn in during the ceremony.

The oath-taking comes after the NDA’s sweeping victory, securing 202 of 243 seats, giving Kumar a powerful mandate to form the next government.

Over 20 ministers from JD(U) and BJP are expected to be inducted into the new cabinet, with the political establishment closely watching the allocation of key portfolios.

With his 10th consecutive term, Nitish Kumar once again cements his position as one of Bihar’s most enduring leaders. The new government is set to focus on governance, development, and managing alliance dynamics, with upcoming policy decisions being keenly anticipated across the state.
