Bangkok: Mexico’s Fátima Bosch was crowned Miss Universe 2025 on Friday after a dramatic and disorder-ridden finale at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, that plunged the global pageant into controversy.
Bosch, a fashion and apparel design graduate from Tabasco who has spoken publicly about living with dyslexia and ADHD, impressed judges with her advocacy for sustainable fashion and inclusive education. She secured Mexico’s fourth Miss Universe title after the swimsuit, evening gown and final Q&A rounds.

However, the glittering finale was overshadowed by backstage turmoil. A video that went viral shortly before the crowning showed pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil reprimanding Bosch for allegedly missing promotional activities. The tense exchange reportedly led Bosch to briefly walk out of the venue, triggering a solidarity walkout by several other contestants.
The situation escalated further when multiple judges resigned, raising concerns about voting transparency and fuelling allegations of irregularities in the selection process. The Miss Universe Organisation later issued statements defending its procedures while confirming that an internal review would be conducted.
Supporters have hailed Bosch’s win as a triumph of resilience amid chaos. As Miss Universe 2025, she is expected to focus on sustainable fashion initiatives, advocacy for individuals with learning differences, and women’s empowerment. Thailand and Venezuela finished among the top finalists in a competitive field overshadowed by the night’s controversies.
As Bosch begins her reign, the organisation faces mounting pressure to restore trust and address questions sparked by the turbulent finale.
