25 Years of Jharkhand Assembly: Focus on Poverty, Justice & Institutional Growth

CM Hemant Soren Pays Tribute to Statehood Icons

Ranchi: Jharkhand marked the Silver Jubilee of its Legislative Assembly on Saturday with a solemn and celebratory ceremony attended by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, ministers, MPs, MLAs and former lawmakers.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid an emotional tribute to the architects of the statehood movement, saying it was “deeply unfortunate” that its foremost pioneer could not witness the Assembly’s 25-year milestone. He hailed Shibu Soren as the unshakeable force whose decades-long struggle for identity, dignity and rights turned a regional demand into a historic mass movement that eventually carved out the state of Jharkhand. His ideals, Soren said, remain a guiding light for generations.

Reflecting on the state’s journey since its formation in 2000, Soren said Jharkhand had travelled through phases of struggle, transformation and measured progress. The Silver Jubilee events organised by both the government and the High Court, he noted, underscored the maturing of the state’s institutional framework.

On governance challenges, the Chief Minister admitted that areas like poverty reduction, nutritional security and social justice had not advanced as swiftly as hoped. However, he stressed that his government was determined to close these gaps. Soren highlighted reforms such as the Right to Service Act, which he said is now delivering essential public services directly at citizens’ doorsteps, supported by a stronger push for transparency, justice and social empowerment.
